Origami is the art of paper folding. The word is Japanese.
Origami Crane:
If you want to know how to make one, you can find instructions in the following
sites.
How small can you make it?
Two years ago (1996) I started to make tiny origami crane as a challenge of
"How small can you make it".
The smallest one I have ever made was using a 6mm by 6mm paper.
Since then, I made tiny origami cranes and put them in a plastic box, and gave
it to my friends as a wedding gift.
Here a snapshot of origami crane I made with a 7mm by 7mm paper and a dime.
This crane was made with a curved tweezer and my fingers.
No magnifier was used.
The leg was made of 32 gauge beading wire. Some glue was used to secure
crane and wire.
It took 25 minutes to make one.

This picture is taken by the digital camera on SGI O2, so the quality is not so
good. I will try to get a better one.
Other people's works:
Well, I am not the first one making tiny origami cranes and certainly not
making the smallest one. According to
John Smith's article
Origami Records and Curiosities, Assistant Professor Watanabe at Nigata
University, Japan used a 1mm by 1mm square to fold a crane using a microscope
and sewing needle. [
British Origami, No. 119, page 22.]
Joseph Wu also posted a picture of
small cranes in his gallery. There was no word about how small those
cranes were.
